Who invented CCTV?

Cameras were not invented by man. Cameras were invented thousands of years ago. It was the Jews, Babylonians, Assyrians, Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans. They invented recording devices to keep record of people, events, and activities. There were different formats of recording such as 35mm film, black and white film, slide film, Betamax, and VHS. Cameras were also used to make shooting movies. There is a famous movie called "The Matrix". In the movie, the main character Neo has a "button" implanted under his skin which can open and close his eyes. It is a feature called a "3DOF" (three-dimensional motion capture system). There is another movie called "Matrix Reloaded". The main character is Neo, again. There are some pictures of these two movies showing 3D motion capture systems.

Uses of CCTV

CCTV has become one of the key police technology and has become a major piece of technology for domestic and law enforcement alike. The number of CCTV cameras has grown steadily year on year and is now the second largest item of police equipment after mobile phones. It is predicted to grow rapidly and become a huge market. The use of CCTV has been used on a wide range of different applications. The use of CCTV has become an integral part of policing across the world. There are multiple uses of CCTV that vary from police investigations to improving the urban environment and improving security. Most police forces in the UK now use CCTV to solve domestic crimes. This is a fantastic time to be a police officer as the use of CCTV is only going to increase and get better.

Types of CCTV

Two types of CCTV are available. One is in the form of "facial recognition" (later called as "Biometric identification") and another is in the form of "Automated number plate recognition" (ANPR). How is CCTV used However, that is just the starting part of the subject. According to a research conducted by the Transport Research Laboratory (TRL) in Britain, CCTV system is usually used in the following manner: 1. Keeping a watch on vehicles/individuals in public transport 2. Fighting terrorist activities in public transport 3. Traffic regulation 4. Tracking down criminals and also car theft 5. Defending oneself and property in public places 6. Convenience for citizen 7. Making citizens safe from crimes 8. Highlighting violations of public order.

Conclusion

Cameras have become an indispensable part of our every day life and in most countries they are a part of the fabric of the overall system of security and administration. They were first introduced and operationalized in the 1950s and many countries have adopted them as one of the elements of their surveillance system. When CCTVs were first introduced into the UK, there were few directives in regards to the security and usage of the cameras and enforcement of the rules was mostly left to local authorities. In more recent times, the security issues have become more acute and, therefore, governments across the globe are focusing more on the use of technology as a means of surveillance to curb crime and ensure public safety.
